You don't have to be Beyoncé
Treadmills, bikes and rowing machines. These are lifelines for absolutely every gym junkie. But when the gym isn't calling your name, and you've physically consumed Woolworth's supply of Caramello Koalas, what can you do to maintain that gorgeous figure of yours and still have fun? Well I'm about to introduce you to my holy grail – Zumba.

Zumba classes are everything you imagined your perfect workout to be – fun, crazy, yet still hard enough to keep your body in tip top shape. A typical workout involves Latin dance moves, elements of aerobics and most importantly shaking those hips! Born dancers easily catch on, however for those of you who aren't the next Beyoncé – like myself – there is still definitely a place for you. Zumba is all about having fun, and the instructors are always happy for you to work at your own skill level and do what you feel comfortable with.

A typical class starts off with an exciting and unusual warm up. Forget those awkward looking stretches you'll find in other workouts, a typical Zumba class will begin with a warm up routine. This is relaxed and simple – it's just about getting the blood pumping all over your body and stretching out those muscles.
Then comes the fun part, dancing your way to a perfect body! Generally you'll do one routine that you practice every week, and then you'll mix it up with a number of new sequences – depending on the length of your class. You can practically feel those calories burning in your stomach! Be warned though, some of the moves are challenging and you may need lightening fast reflexes. This is nothing to fret about, just jump along and do your best! Every move is easy to learn with some practice. Before you know it, you'll be the Zumba pro!

Feeling sick one week? Don't feel in a state to leave your own home? When I feel I've had a bit too much dessert, I put on my shoes and blast my stereo. Zumba is anytime and anywhere! From the pool to the lounge - it really is that easy. So next time you need to loose some extra calories, run away from the treadmills, brake away from those bikes, and cruise past the rowing machines. Zumba is the most exciting, easiest and entertaining way to do it. Found everywhere from your local gym to your own lounge room, you really can't go wrong.

Good article but would have liked to see a list of 'best zumba classes in Melbourne' or 'free melbourne Zumba trials' or some such atached - as a newbie to Melb i am dependent on Weekend Notes for sending me off to quality places & experiences, as a Zumba convert having left my regular classes behind i'd love some guidance in finding a new class!
