Running since 2000, Singapore's long awaited and biggest annual outdoor ravefest is here again. ZoukOut (ZO) is going live this December with over 3 nights of planned partying, with 1 in the Zouk Club and 2 under the stars on Sentosa's sandy beaches.

ZoukOut was conceived in 2000 by Zouk Club to be the region's definitive dance music festival and bring the Club's spirit and energy to the great outdoors and an even larger audience. Zouk Club opened its doors in Singapore in 1991 and has since become a world renowned clubbing institution, credited with introducing dance music and club culture to the region and remaining its strongest perpetuator to this day. The Club has also been voted one of the best clubs in the world annually since 1993 to present day in the world's leading music publications, and ranked #5 on DJ Mag Top 100 Clubs 2012 Poll.

Held between 6 to 8 December 2012, ZoukOut helps to herald the Christmas celebrations in Singapore and promises to rock the Island with visitors from around the world.

I chatted with Timothy Chia (a.k.a Tim), Head of Marketing and Events for Zouk to get the inside scoop on all the excitement around ZO 2102, one of Asia's biggest music dance festival.

Lionel: What's so exciting about ZO 2012?

Tim: For starters, we have a super line-up of acts. It's noteworthy that many of our festival line-up have been ranked really highly in the recent DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll 2012 like Hardwell ( #6 ), Above & Beyond ( #8 ) and Paul van Dyk ( #16 ).

I'm also quite excited about the fact that before the festival even happens, we have a huge name playing at our pre-ZoukOut party at Zouk in the form of Avicii, who's just been voted #3 in the same poll and is indisputably one of the biggest names in dance music at the moment. This should be a great way to kick off the ZoukOut festivities.

Lionel: What's happening with your ZO 2012 girl?

Tim: We conducted a casting session at the Zouok Club and opened it to the public via social media by utilising our Zouk facebook and twitter accounts. We finally picked Kylie as the ZoukOut 2012 girl because she embodies the festival on so many levels.

Apart from the fact that she's obviously easy on the eye, she's also got a really infectiously bubbly and warm personality to boot. Her genuine love for ZoukOut, Zouk, partying and meeting people from all over the world made her an easy choice when it came to picking our ZoukOut 2012 girl.

Lionel: Who's coming to ZO 2012?

Tim: Our ZoukOut faithful have come from all over the globe including neighbouring countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand to countries as far flung as the United Kingdom and U.S.A. This is truly a festival that appeals to the great global clubbing public.

Lionel: What can we expect from ZO 2102?

Tim: ZoukOut has always been known for being a festival that balances its line-up really well and apart from the aforementioned acts that fill superclubs the world over, some of the acts that we're bringing in appeal to Dance Music connoisseurs everywhere and I'm personally excited about seeing acts like Nina Kraviz and Maceo Plex!

ZoukOut 2012 is also the first time that we're doing the festival on the beach over 2 days! I'm excited to see how our festival goers take to twice the partying and twice the fun.

Apart from the super line-up and being able to party under the stars with the sand beneath your feet, it's really about the entire ZoukOut experience; the great vibe, the genuinely good customer service, the amazing sound system, visuals and fringe activities. It's really just like going to Zouk on any night but experienced on a much larger scale outdoors.

In addition to that, we also have a very exciting, first-time collaboration with this local company called ARTSYFACT that specialises in "Upcycling" in which discarded junk or vintage pieces are given a new lease of life and they will be creating a special art installation with an important environmental message, just for the festival.

If you're planning to visit Singapore, this "One World, One Music, One Tribe, One Dance" party festival promises to electrify your December.
