The Zonta Club of Melbourne on Yarra is a local service organisation that's part of Zonta International, a global network of 35,000 women in 70 countries who are passionate about empowering women and girls through service and advocacy. Hot on the heels of International Women's Day, all funds raised will be used for their service projects, including local charity HerSpace who help women affected by family violence and sexual exploitation. They're also involved in making breast-care cushions for women following breast cancer surgery, assembling birthing kits to help women in developing countries for safe deliveries and educational grants for young women demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities.
Amongst the bags, there are 31 bags that have been collected and donated towards the fundraiser by one woman who was so grateful at receiving a Zonta breast cushion during her breast cancer treatment. Such is the heart and soul that has gone into this event, so no matter which walk of life you're in, if you want to get involved and make a difference, please contact Zonta Club of Melbourne on Yarra, the oldest Zonta Club in Australia that was chartered with 22 members in 1966.
Club members are a vibrant and sociable group of women who work together at a local and global level through four club committees that involves Service & Advocacy, Program & Public Relations, Membership and Fundraising. Perhaps you can charge in with them for their next birthing kit assembly day on Sunday 28 April 2018 at 2pm held with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) at St Peter's Anglican Church Eastern Hill, 15 Gisborne St, East Melbourne.
