On Wednesday 25th November, between 6.00pm and 7.00pm, the Zonta Club of Geelong is hosting an Awareness Hour.

Come along and spend an hour with some inspiring women and see if you would like to become part of this dynamic service club. The primary focus of the Zonta Club is to empower women through service and advocacy.

You can hear from club members who will speak about how Zonta's reach extends locally through scholarships, service and advocacy. Zonta Club also works on national and international projects, helping to secure the futures of women in Australia and across the world. Please join Zonta for this Awareness Hour, to learn more about the work of the Zonta Club of Geelong.

Joy Herman, the club president and the Fellowship / Membership Committee look forward to welcoming you to this informative session. Complimentary light refreshments will be served.

The Zonta Club of Geelong Inc. was chartered on the 29th March, 1979. It is club No. 879 in Area 4 of District 23 (District 23 includes Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania).

The Club membership of Zonta Geelong is made up of a broad cross section of women from around Geelong. The members come from a diverse range of professions. The major business of the club is managed by the elected executives, who make up the Board of Directors.

Zonta Geelong supports a range of service projects and awards at the international, district and club levels to help women in Australia and overseas.

Some of those service projects and awards include:

Assembling and distributing birthing kits that provide a clean and safe birthing environment for women who don't have access to professional medical care in developing countries.

Making and distributing breast care cushions for women (and men) recovering from breast surgery in Australia.

Supporting awards to women for education and community service, providing financial assistance to help "kick start" careers and acknowledge the quiet achievers in the community.

The Zonta Geelong club members raise funds for these projects through a range of annual and one-off projects which include theatre nights, fashion parades, auctions, trivia nights, shopping trips and raffles.

What is Zonta?

Zonta was founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, USA. Zonta is a Sioux Indian word meaning "honest and trustworthy".

Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals who works together to advance the status of women worldwide, through service and advocacy.

There are more than 30,000 members who belong to more than 1.200 Zonta Clubs in 67 countries. Zonta members worldwide volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship programs aimed at fulfilling Zonta's mission and objectives.

The Zonta emblem is a composite of Sioux Indian symbols. The Zonta Rose serves as a symbol of Zonta Rose Day. Zonta Rose Day occurs on the 8th of March. It coincides with International Women's Day.

I plan to attend the Awareness Hour. I hope to see you there!
