'Zingara!' A Life's Journey at The Playhouse

'Zingara!' is vibrant and innovative dance production coming to Civic Playhouse, Newcastle for two performances only on Saturday 8th August 2015.

Written, directed and choreographed by Sonya Manzalini, 'Zingara!' tells the story of a gypsy dancer, from childhood to elder, unfolding through dance, drumming, beautiful costumes and dedicated performers.

Sonya has been teaching and promoting Gypsy Belly Dance and community dance in Newcastle and the Hunter region for over 20 years. Dance of Life is a community dance school and is the longest operating school of its kind in the region.

With their latest production, 'Zingara!', Sonya and Dance of Life aim to develop an understanding and acceptance of cultural diversity by presenting a story that deals with a range of everyday of emotions common to all people, be they gypsies, refugees or any person considered "other".

Sonya notes that the title of the show, 'Zingara!' is an acknowledgement her heritage and is also the Italian word for Gypsy. 'Zingara!' is a culmination of 2 years work by the dedicated group of amazing women and men who have shared their lives and experiences with each other through dance and laughter, tears and stories.

All are welcome to see 'Zingara!' live on stage at Civic Playhouse, Newcastle. There will be two performances on Saturday 8th August 2015; a matinee performance at 2pm and an evening performance at 8pm.
