Art, Wine and Cheese...three of my favourite things! The first thing you'll notice about Zigis is the wonderful quirky decor and amazingly friendly staff that are passionate about what they do. The owner, Zigi Ozeri, took the time to sit down with us and explained each type of cheese to us!
Zigi's bar includes a large selection of wines, local craft beers and spirits. One can request a flight of cheese and wines, as well as beer and cheese matching. However, I couldn't go past the "molecular cocktails" on the menu - ordering the mojito. Beautifully tangy mojito captured in large globes were like big boozy green caviars. So much fun to eat/drink.
The 3-cheese board came with the chef's recommendations of Blu61 (a blue cheese that is slowly fermented in grapes and berries), a raw goat's milk cheese and a beautiful truffle pecorino. Accompaniments included crispy handmade music bread, dried incaberries, cranberries, muscatels, apricots and figs. Even blue-cheese haters will enjoy the Blu61, which has a slightly sweet and fruity taste that balances out the "blueness" associated with blue cheese.
Beautiful 3 cheese board featuring Blu61, Truffle Pecorino and a raw goats milk cheese - $39
There's also an amazing art gallery upstairs featuring artwork by local artists, and a great menu featuring bar snacks and "Ausraeli" food - Israeli foods that cater to the Australian palate. Zigis also runs movie nights and wine tastings, which are promoted via their website and on facebook.
