Holistic health enhancing vitality and wellness
The festive season is over for another year and it's now time to consider what to do about the results of that period of overindulgence. No doubt many of us have decided to do something about it and made lots of New Year resolutions to begin exercising and dieting.
If you intend to deal with your seasonal intemperance in this manner, you should be aware that every year approximately 40% of us make similar resolutions but only 8% achieve their goals. Add to that the statistic that around 97% of people who lose weight while dieting re-gain everything they lose, plus a bit more within three years.
But don't despair. Zest Infusion is now taking registrations for its first Mindful Eating programme of 2018. Although this programme is not specifically about diets and dieting, it provides you with a fresh perspective to help clear any confusion about dieting and show you how you can deal with food and eating to make positive changes in your life.
Mindful Eating helps increase awareness of the thoughts, feelings and physical sensations that come with eating and offers freedom from the deprivations of dieting. You will also discover more opportunities to make healthful food choices and bring acceptance and balance to your life. Mindful Eating promotes an understanding of true needs.
The first programme commences on Tuesday, 30 January, 2018, and consists of six sessions the first three on consecutive Tuesday nights and the second three on every second Tuesday with the final session being conducted on Tuesday, 27 March, 2018. All sessions are being held in the Zest Infusion rooms at Birkdale Green, Level 1, Suite 19/112 Birkdale Road, Birkdale between 5.30 and 7.30pm.
Full cost for the six-week course is $390. A Medicare rebate of $31.65 per session is available for participants with an eligible referral from their GP – Zest Infusion is happy to assist with obtaining that referral where applicable. The rebate may only be refunded on attendance of each session. You can also check with your private health fund as some funds offer rebates on group programmes.
Programme costs include all handouts and mindfulness meditation audios. Tea and coffee are provided during the programme sessions.

If you are wondering if this is the course for you, then consider how your current relationship with food is integral to your health and wellbeing and reflects your attitudes about yourself and your environment. An unhealthy relationship with food is very common but not always obvious. Take a minute to consider these questions:
Do you ever make food choices based around a set of rules rather than what you would find physically and emotionally satisfying?
Do you feel guilty about eating?
Do you often eat without being hungry?
Do you eat to help yourself feel better emotionally?
Do you feel physically uncomfortable when you have finished a meal?
Do you regularly eat while doing other tasks, like watching television or working at the computer?
A "Yes" answer to any of those questions may represent a disconnection between you and the food you are eating. If so, you could benefit from developing a healthier relationship through the practice of Mindful Eating.
When applied to food behaviours mindfulness can increase your awareness to the process of eating and your interactions with food. During this course, you will learn to pay closer attention to the sensations of eating, habits, eating triggers and cues as you learn to cultivate mindfulness and alter your habitual responses to food by taking pause.
Each session of the Mindful Eating programme includes information and examination of the principles of mindfulness and mindful eating, group discussion, practical mindfulness exercises, and guided meditations. You will also receive weekly mindful eating challenges to apply and practice at home.
The Mindful Eating programme is facilitated by Clinical Psychologist, Dr Christina Reynolds and Accredited Practising Dietitian, Tania Logan. It is for anyone who would like a more healthy relationship with food.
