The Zest Fest celebrates and enhances the lives of our older citizens. Once called the Every Generation Festival, Zest Fest is all about connecting with the more mature people in our community and dismissing the stereotypes of ageing. This annual festival is organised by Council on the Ageing .

Taking place from Saturday October 7 to Friday October 27, Zest Fest is full of fun things to do with appeal for people of all ages. It's about coming together as a community to enjoy life, and festival events are all affordable or free things to do. While many of the events are free, please check whether bookings are necessary.



One of the best things about Zest Fest is the cross-pollination with other current events in Adelaide including the Open State Festival in early October, where you can join in an afternoon of free live debate at You reckon that's old? hosted by controversial celebrity Peter Goers.

Come to a special free Curator's floor talk as part of TARNANTHI Festival of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Art. Take your pick of films at Mercury Cinema's Seniors on Screen (Zest Fest discount tickets $6). Join the Centre of Democracy curator for a guided tour of this cultural centre followed by coffee and cake. Motor enthusiasts will love to watch Adelaide's Down Under London to Brighton au/events/london-to-brighton.htm Veteran Car Run .



If like me you love the amazing castles in Adelaide , you're in for a treat during Zest Fest. Dunluce Castle at Brighton is open for a choice of tours - both the AdelaideDunluceCastleHistoryTours History Tour or Paranormal Lockin are on offer (if you dare).

The City of Mitcham is hosting a range of events for (bookings required)



The City of West Torrens is holding an Active Ageing Expo on October 13, City of Onkaparinga has an Art and Craft Exhibition of work by seniors (October 9-14), while in the City of Marion you can take a guided walk of A Rural Village and it's People ($5).

Home gardeners will enjoy the Community Garden Tour at Linde Reserve , which is also the venue for St. Peters Rotary Shed Sale. For ageing LGBTIQ people there's a fantastic Christmas High Tea coming up as part of this year's Feast Festival .



People living in the regions of South Australia have not been forgotten. Come and Try Taoist Tai Chi free of charge in the Adelaide Hills at Nairne and Mount Barker, go ballroom dancing in Port Lincoln, while Mount Gambier even has its own Seniors Festival .

An all-day bus tour of Yorke Peninsula ($60 including bus fare and two-course lunch) will be popular, but I'm not sure whether you will see our seven special spots .

As we grow older many people become separated from family and friends. This can lead to feelings of isolation, depression and loneliness. Council on the Ageing's Zest Fest offers wonderful opportunities for older people to escape their homes, meet new friends, and learn new skills. It's also a great way for younger people to meet and learn from our more life experienced citizens.
