I love trying new food and new restaurants. My other passions are Origami www.weekendnotes.com/origami-classes-japan-australia-friendship-association/ and Pokémon www.weekendnotes.com/pokemon-center-tokyo/

Located along Magill Road, Zen Chinese Restaurant is a good place to enjoy delicious Chinese cuisine. Customers who choose to order their food to takeaway get to enjoy various deals depending on the total price of their dishes. The deals include free prawn crackers for orders over $35 and 10% off the total bill if your order exceeds $70.

Great for starting your meal, the chicken in the Shredded Chicken with Chilli Oil & Sesame Oil was tender with the chilli oil giving the dish a delectable spicy hit. It was listed as a cold dish on the menu but it was served slightly warm. We didn't mind that as we prefer warm to cold savoury dishes.

We were delighted by the generous portion of the fish fillets used in their Fish Fillet and Tofu Hotpot. The fish fillets were cooked to perfection and the tofu complemented the fish well with its firmer texture. The sauce the ingredients were cooked in brought out their flavour without overwhelming. It is advisable to eat this dish slowly as it is served steaming hot and stays like that for a while.

A good choice for a vegetable dish, the beans used in their Four Season Beans had a vibrant green colour with the right amount of bite to them. The pork mince mixture cooked with the beans gave the dish its delectable savoury flavour as well as providing a meaty element to the dish.

Generous enough to be shared with a small group, the meat of the Crispy and Spicy Pork Hock was juicy, with the spicy sauce coating it bringing out its flavour. The heat in the dish was balanced by the steamed bok choy surrounding it. The dish was tasty but it was not the crispy pork hock that we were looking forward to.

The décor of the restaurant gave it a slightly formal feel with the tables spaced a good distance from each other. Off-street parking is conveniently located in the carpark at the back of the restaurant. We enjoyed 25% off our total bill by using our Entertainment Book voucher.
