Located along Wright Court in Adelaide Chinatown, Zen Chinese Restaurant is where you can enjoy Chinese cuisine. The main draw of the restaurant is their Yunnan hot pot dishes, named after the pot of the same name. Ordering your dishes is done by scanning a QR Code at your table.

The slices of beef in the Stir-fried Chilli Beef with Lemongrass were tender. Extra flavour was provided by garlic chives. It had the degree of lemongrass flavour that we expected. Be aware that the dried chillies gave the dish a potent spicy kick. It is best eaten with rice to serve as a foil to the spiciness.

The shredded pork in the Shredded Pork in Peking Style had a firm texture without being tough. The sauce gave the dish a sweet-savoury flavour, and freshness was provided by a topping of shredded spring onions. Accompanying the dish were the same pancakes that typically accompany Peking Duck. Extra pancakes can be ordered at an extra cost.

One of their cold dishes, the chunks of cucumber in the Cucumber with Garlic, were of a good size and retained their crunch. It was dressed simply with a sesame oil sauce. Minced garlic imparted a garlicy flavour without masking the taste of the cucumber.

The décor of the restaurant had an Asian feel. Diners have the choice between seating on the ground floor or upstairs. It is quite popular, so arriving early or booking a table is advised to avoid having to wait for a table.
