In a previous life, I was a wedding coordinator for a beautiful hotel in Fremantle, Western Australia. Often the weekends were full of glamour, mostly my life was frantic. If you have ever organised a wedding, helped someone or organised your own – you will understand just how much work goes into one solitary day.
Flowers, dresses, suits, flowers, a cake, a reception venue, church, music, photographer… the list is endless.
One important aspect of organising a spectacular event, and the key to getting your loved ones to actually show up on the day… you need invitations!
It's been 10 years since I was living that crazy life, managing up to 5 weddings a weekend, organising hundreds during the year. I miss it tremendously and day dream about starting my own business to one day step into that hectic, but very rewarding atmosphere again.
Low and behold, I find myself dipping my toes back into wedding water. My wonderful Dad is getting married! "Third times a charm!" he says. So, here I am, organising his wedding and quietly loving it.
It's a little trickier this time, being that I am in Adelaide and he is in Perth, but I do love a challenge. It will just be a small, intimate lunchtime wedding, where he and his new 'wife to be' will be surrounded by their closest family and a few friends. We are all thrilled for them.
Back to my challenge though, a checklist of things to do, slowly being crossed off with pride and delight.
Ceremony – booked
Restaurant for lunch time reception – booked Bride's dress – organised Flowers – on to it!
Invitations – Zazzled and ready to go!
Who knew that finding invitations would require such effort? I only needed 10, but most online stores have a minimum order of 20 – what is the point in buying more than we need? Weddings are expensive enough without over purchasing.
Late on a Sunday evening, after hours of frustratingly searching the World Wide Web, I came across Zazzle.com.au. A little overwhelming to begin with, this online store sells everything; most of which can be personalised to make a creative gift; or a little something for yourself.
Zazzle.com.au has clothing, accessories, cards, stuff for your pets, electronics and ... wedding invitations.
I had my eye on the prize though. Shoppers can search by theme, season or even the texture of the paper that you desire. The invitations come in different sizes, fonts, colours, wording – there are endless choices.
The great thing about Zazzle.com.au is the preview function. After selecting the style of invite you like, you enter the wording that you want and then, voilà – you can view it live on the screen. This helps to take the guess work out and enables you to feel confident in the choice that you have made.
Great features of this site if you are looking at invitations: - low prices
- minimum order of 10
- live preview of your order
- stick to your theme – most styles have matching menus, place cards, save the date cards, rsvp cards etc
- fantastic quality
The site is simple to navigate, is bursting with a great selection of quality items to chose from – you can even order personalized bomboniere on Zazzle. My only word of warning, is that if you needed your items to arrive yesterday, I recommend you pay extra for express postage. They weren't kidding when they said it would take 5 to 12 business days to receive my order – lucky I wasn't in a hurry.
