Zambrero at Mawson Lakes is the latest of the chain of Mexican stores to be opened in Adelaide. Although located within University of South Australia Mawson Lakes campus, it is opened to the public. During opening day, the place was packed due to an offer that gave customers a free burrito or rice bowl of their choice. As with their other restaurants, ordering your meal consists of picking your style of dish followed by the meat filling, topping and sauce.
The newest addition to their menu, their Power Burrito gets its distinctive black colour from the use of black rice in the tortilla. The beef I chose as the filling was juicy with a good amount of smoky flavour and the black rice added a chewy texture to the dish. For the sauce, I picked the Verde sauce which gave the burrito a bit of a spicy zing.

PowerBowl is essentially the rice bowl version of the Power Burrito. The pork my father chose for his bowl was succulent, with its flavour not as strong as the beef. The jalapenos gave the dish a bit of spice, which was balanced out by the fresh shredded lettuce, tomato and corn salsas. My father chose the Secret BBQ sauce, which added a smoky taste to the dish.

For those that feel their Burritos are too big for them, Zambrero has a smaller version known as the Chikito. The white rice filling and our choice of chicken gave the Chikito a more subtle flavour compared to our other choices. The Basilo sauce did a good job of enhancing its taste without overwhelming the other ingredients.

Compared to their North Adelaide branch, the Mawson Lakes store had a more modern feel with a good amount of seating space. The branch's location in the Mawson Lakes campus of The University of South Australia and close proximity to Endeavour College makes it convenient for students and staff members to drop by for a snack or a meal.
