Come have your Naa'n and eat it too
Zaaffran, the famous harbourside and iconic Indian restaurant, is named after the aromatic exotic spice saffron. The best part about this place is that the vegan food is not playing second fiddle to the meat dishes but, are stand alone masterpieces!
Our recent visit was with friends from overseas travelling through Australia and was the first time after their renovations late 2015 ending in an overhaul of the menu.
The dining experience was superb with great service! The memorable menu included starters such as the Beetroot patties and Sev Papri Chaat which are little round savoury wafers with a delectable topping of potatoes, mint - tamarind chutney and a crisp chickpea flour noodles.
The mains included Black dal, home style okra stir fry and a made to order mixed vegetable in spicy curry. Plenty of tandoori wholemeal bread to mop all this up with the famous Zaaffran biryani was of course mandatory! There is an exhaustive dessert menu but I gave it a miss as most Indian desserts are dairy based. The rest of my group though loved the flavours of the mixed kulfi and gulab jamun.
The service was quick, efficient and warm with all our dishes tailored to the different spice levels of our group! Zaaffran definitely did not disappoint with their delicious food and fabulous setting.
