'Water' is the festival theme for 2017 as the Quandamooka recognise its important "life-giving element as waters and oceans connect peoples, nourish the environment giving life to all living things across lands and seas." The First Nations' people of the region, the Quandamooka peoples, live and work in the region with cultural traditions stemming from tens of thousands of years of continuous occupation.

Visitors are invited to share with the Quandamooka people the Festival opening day by the waters-edge featuring song, dance, traditional tucker, markets, workshops and guest First Nations' artists from Melanesia. Enjoy music by Australia's consummate contemporary song man Troy Jungaji Brady, and presenting emergent singer/songwriter Emily Wurramara setting the tone for a taste of things to come in the next three months of our winter festival.

The Quandamooka Festival is a unique opportunity for visitors to learn more about the sands, seas, lakes, creeks, catchments and creatures found across the Redlands and adjacent Moreton Bay islands. It will be presented from the Quandamooka people's perspective as well allowing visitors to participate in a whole range of activities and events including whale watching cultural tours, Kunjiels (corroborees), Indigenous sports, eco boat tours, art, weaving, bush tucker dining experiences, speaker's forums and symposiums and collaborations with First Nations peoples from around the world.

Quandamooka Festival Official Opening Celebrations takes place on the island's waterfront at Ron Stark Oval in Dunwich. This is easily accessible for the day or longer by ferry or water taxi from eitherhttps://www.stradbrokeferries.com.au/ or the Stradbroke Flyer water taxi.
