For those looking for a good place to enjoy Thai cuisine at Torrensville, Yum Yai Thai Kitchen offers a good range of Thai dishes. Lunch specials are available for diners who visit during lunchtime.

The pieces of squid in the Zabb Squid dish were not tough, and the crisp batter coating contrasted nicely with the flesh. Chilli powder gave the dish a hint of heat, and crushed roasted rice added a nutty taste. A salad of red onion, cucumber and spring onions provided an element of freshness.

While we found some of the pieces of steak in the Grilled Beef Salad a bit tough, they still had a delectable charred flavour. The amount of salad greens was generous and extra texture was provided by shredded cabbage, carrots and tomatoes. Also included was a cob of grilled corn that had a slightly sweet flavour. The spicy Thai dressing was served on the side for diners to add as much as they wanted to the dish.

Their Crab Wrap was like a seafood version of Ngoh Hiang, a Chinese dish in which minced pork filling is wrapped in beancurd skin before being deep-fried. The crab meat, chicken and prawn filling had a nice firm texture, and the rolls were cooked sufficiently to give them a golden-brown colour. The rolls were big enough to serve as a satisfying appetizer. Served with the dish was a sweet plum dipping sauce that did not taste too sweet.

The décor of the restaurant gave it a casual feel and there was a good amount of seating space. Some of their dishes can be made gluten-free.
