The dumplings don't disappoint at Yum Cha @ CBD
I don't know about you but there are few things I like more than the sight of a steaming trolley overloaded with dumplings, deep fried goodies and dim sum of a weekend. I'm speaking of course of yum cha and I am a very pleased to announce the arrival of Yum Cha @ CBD in Civic's West Row.
A friend and I thought we'd check this joint out for lunch over the long weekend, and it didn't disappoint. Opting to try our luck at yum cha, the food coming out on trays and trolleys was fast and plentiful. Had I been a little more organised, and a little less hungry, I would share with you photos of the soft shell crab, BBQ pork pie and pork and peanut dumplings we tried. All were magnificent. We cheated a bit and ordered the lobster dumplings off the menu. They too didn't disappoint.
Prices were reasonable with our eight or so dishes and a bottle of Adelaide Hills sav blanc coming to $100 even.
Yum Cha @ CBD has only been open for a couple of weeks and there are a couple of kinks to iron out. Service was too quick in parts – I would have liked a bit more of an explanation of some of the dishes coming out – and too slow in others. But I'm confident the team will kick these quickly and, let's face it, a sense of anticipation and uncertainty is part of the yum cha experience.
Yum Cha @ CBD's menu is extensive and includes classics like rice flour rolls and Chinese broccoli as well as the more unusual (or unusual to me) like simmer bovine offal and jellyfish and pork trotter served cold.
Yum Cha @ CBD is located at 32 West Row, Civic and is open for lunch (11am-3 pm) and dinner (5pm-10.30pm) seven days a week.
I've already decided it will become one of my regulars. Is that bad?
