Get The Creative Juices Flowing
A really cute way to entertain the kids in Brisbane this Christmas holiday with creative storytelling and singing, and it is free.

Presented by the State Library of Queensland it offers storytelling workshops and reading sessions for children of all ages as well as some nursery rhymes and Christmas singalong fun.

Located in South Bank Parklands, on the South Bank, it is in the perfect location for tonnes of family fun.  Next to the story time garden there is a huge kids playground and a couple of minutes away is Streets Beach and Pool, not to mention all the cafes, restaurants, markets and shops close by.

With the backdrop of the city behind it really is a wonderful setting for taking the family and a picnic and making a day of it - all whilst championing good old fashioned reading and writing.

The trees and surrounding area is decorated in colourful ribbons and banners, which makes it really pretty to look at. It has loads of comfy chairs and colourful beanbags for adults and kids to just sit and relax, and read quietly or listen to a fun story.

Being from the UK, I am still getting used to the weather being warm at Christmas, but when I see things like this it makes me really like celebrating Christmas with great weather as something like this simply wouldn't be possible in England. Oh and don't worry as its set in the parklands with lots of trees, the majority of the area is shaded and they have umbrellas too, so it's safe for the kids.

Running everyday through to Christmas eve, the reading garden is open from 10am till 4 pm with storytelling sessions at 11.30, 12.30 and 1.30.

If you are looking for something a little different this Christmas holiday to entertain the children, then I would recommend this to get the children's imagination and creative juices flowing.

South Bank is probably one of my favourite places in Brisbane, it always has something on and is just alive with people and culture and entertainment.
