It's not easy to miss the Grand View Hotel at Wentworth Falls. It's big and it's pink and it's right by the side of the Great Western Highway. It seems that I've always been on my way to somewhere else and the Grand View and I have just never managed to catch up. This time however, things would be different. Discussing a lunch time destination with a group of friends, I immediately suggest the Grand View and bingo, away we went.
Built in the 1930's, the Grand View has managed to maintain a pleasant and comfortable 1930's-esque ambience with period furnishings and old photos of the hotel adorning its walls. I was a tad disappointed that it doesn't seem to have such grand views nowadays. Maybe I needed to go up stairs. Doesn't matter, we were there to eat. The dining room has got a terrific little menu and tempting blackboard specials. As it's still winter, I go for the 'Yulefest Traditional Christmas Dinner', even though it's lunch time.
The Yulefest lunch consists of three roasted meats; turkey, ham and pork, served with various baked vegetables. It arrives with the generous portions of three meats layered atop one another, all drowned in a tasty gravy. It looks the part although I would have liked another potato cooked just a little crispier than the one I've got on my plate. But hey, mustn't grumble, it's Christmas time!
