This will be quite a unique event. It will be a youth sports and cultural One World festival, which will be a celebration of Refugee Week. Refugee Week takes place every year across the world in the week around World Refugee Day, which is on the 20 June.

The Refugee Week 2019 theme is 'With Refugees' and this continues a 3 year theme for Refugee Week 2019 in Australia.

In 2019, there will be a new focus to celebrate through sharing food and stories from around the world! It will be to start a conversation in your workplace, school or community.

Refugee Week actually started in 1998 as a direct result of hostility in the press and society in general towards refugees and asylum seekers. Refugee Week is now one of the leading national events working against this negative approach. It defends the importance of sanctuary and the benefits that this gives to both refugees and host communities.

This event will be held on Saturday 22nd June 2019 from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. It will be held at the Springers Leisure Centre, Keysborough.

This is now in its seventh year. It is always a great fun day with more than about 500 people joining in to enjoy friendly rivalry playing soccer and basketball with friends and family.

It is a FREE event and includes professionally run matches with experienced referees who will make sure that it is a fun and fair tournament.

As well as this, there will also be heaps of other entertainment including:

  • Hip hop demonstration and dance classes
  • Loud music with DJ
  • A free barbecue
  • Casey 360 youth bus
  • Smoothie bikes
  • My generation games with prizes being awarded
  • FREE giveaways
  • Circus acts to see and try
  • SECL chill out zone
  • Fun sports with friends and family

  • And who says there is no such thing as a free lunch! This is all FREE thanks to the supporters SMRC, City of Greater Dandenong, SECL and HESTA.

Registrations are already open and although it is a free event, you will need to Download a registration form from the SMRC website.

Why not get a team of seven together and register before 17th June 2019.

For full details, visit SMRC or their Facebook page. Or if you have any questions, you can phone Jesse on 0448 896 328.
