Yours the Face by Fleur Fitzpatrick is a one-person performance that takes on more than one persona. Engaging and thought-provoking, this play leads you into the somewhat surrealistic world of fashion and fashion photographers. A world where image is everything.

Just the world 'model' leads many women to think of body and body image. Yours the Face takes you along a slightly altered pathway into the world of glamour and images into a reality that seems far bleaker than that of divine fabrics draped upon sleek slim bodies to sell the lifestyle, the glamour, the adoration.

Daniela Haddad is the star. She takes on two main roles and spends the hour captivating the audience with unique characterisations. Simple body language and excellent visual effects create a world beyond a woman and a stage.

The beginning takes you by surprise, yet after a few minutes of moving with the actress through the dialogue, you begin to understand what the piece is creating before your eyes. Her voice changes and body language and expression become heavier and more masculine. She plays two characters, a female model and a male photographer who end up in some sort of relationship.

Engaging and at once unique in stylisation, set in a world that we see as glamorous and enviable. The story is a sad portrayal of an empty and shallow lifestyle. The desire for something more seems to be there, yet just beyond the female character's grasp. The same problems that the not so pretty girls at school face are magnified and no less real.

The place that this production has found to share its work with us is a place just out of the city. Sitting right in the Cross, on Bayswater Road. Culture meets life on the Cross and The Blue Moon Theatre is an ideal location for independent theatre to test its metal.

There is an abundance of talent in and behind LZA Theatre and the production of Your the Face. Young and talented professionals who have studied hard to begin their professional lives in theatre.

Independent theatre is in and around Sydney. Making the effort to support it is more than worthwhile. Sometimes you are transported to places you never imagined. It costs less than a nightclub and adds something to your perception of life. Make the effort and support the arts.
