The early bird can get coffee here
There are four ways to enjoy your morning coffee in Lilydale. Instant, percolated or pods at home. Or you can turn up at 6.00 am to Your Local Roaster in Main Street.

Barista Charly says that often when they open at 6.00 am, there are customers waiting to get in. Now, that's a good endorsement.

This small café specialises in coffee, but you can also get a range of smoothies, slices and toasties. The non-believers can opt for a range of different tea blends.

You can purchase a variety of coffee beans to take home for your coffee machine as they offer beans from Central America, South America, Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, Ethiopia, Africa, Timor, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Their normal coffee is made from their Moka Premium blend. This is a blend of South American, Oceania, and Indonesian sourced beans. It is described as being creamy, rich and full bodied.

If you ask, they can make your coffee from any of the beans they stock, with each batch describing their taste. Some of the tastes mentioned are, strong, bold, chocolate tones, full body, cocoa and a silky heavy texture. Who thought wine descriptions were exotic?

My coffee was hot, as ordered and my large blueberry muffin was suitable warmed with a generous portion of butter and a knife and fork to assist consumption.

I asked Charly how many coffee beans were needed to make a cup of coffee. She didn't know but showed me how many they used. It was about half a cup full. I declined the offer to count them, as I'm a writer, not a bean counter.

There are several organic blends.

You can coffee-in, coffee-out or coffee take-away. The coffee out option is sitting in the alfresco area on the footpath, under large umbrellas.

A trend at good coffee outlets is to advertise their establishment on their take-away coffee cups. Your Local Roaster is one of them.

It pays to advertise.

Your Local Roaster is situated in the low end of Main Street close to Olinda Creek. It is very quiet, except for six o'clock in the morning.
