Let Them Eat Cake - Just Leave Me A Slice
When I entertain at home I am happy to spend hours whipping up culinary delights in the kitchen. Cooking fuels both my creative side and my passion for sharing good food with loved ones. My extravagant entrečs and main meals are followed by ... ice cream. Yes, ice cream. For the life of me I am unable to cook sweets.

Evidence of my lack of baking skills

Conversely my girlfriend is a brilliant sweets cook. When we go to Nat's place for tea it is inevitably her partner's efforts in the kitchen that we are feasting on until dessert is served. Her efforts are truly outstanding. An offer of a second helping is never declined.

It's funny how that works, isn't it?

Always things of interest for the cake cook

I've recently stumbled upon an interesting local business that just may help level the playing field. Your Cake Kitchen, at Shop 7, 22 Bainbridge Street, Ormiston, in Brisbane's Bayside, is a small family operated cake decorating and supply shop that offers so much hardware for those who cook and decorate cakes.

First of all, there is all the usual paraphernalia required for cake cooking and decorating. Things such as cake mixtures, cookie cutters, icing implements and a range of cup cake paper liners which is phenomenal. Camouflage , anyone?

You can hire a cake tin for a special occasion too. Traditional square and round tins, as well as tins shaped as trucks, footballs, hearts and an assortment of animals.

Your Cake Kitchen can also create a cake to meet your specifications for any special event - weddings, 21st birthdays, retirement and other celebrations - though it is best to talk to Jenni and the team allowing as much lead time as possible.

Some of the decorated cakes on display look just too beautiful to eat and are worth popping in to see for yourself. This pig cake is a perfect example.

You just couldn't!

But we were talking level playing fields, weren't we?

Your Cake Kitchen also runs regular cake cooking and decorating classes. That's right, classes to suit all skill levels, from the absolute beginners to hobbyists, right up to the professionals.

Classes include:
⁃ Cooking and Decorating Cake Pops ( a cake on a stick, basically, but so cute)
⁃ Making Macarons ......and taking them home to show off
⁃ Beginners Fondant Workshop
⁃ Cupcake Decorating Masterclass

There are even School Holiday Cupcake Decorating Classes for the children. Better still, you know that unicorn shaped cake tin you just hired so you could bake for your daughter's birthday? How about taking the class to learn how to decorate it?

All details for these classes and many more are here. And for those courageous souls whom are really up for a challenge take a peek at this Class ......

Sugar Artistry Class - WOW!

Parking is not an issue at the Bainbridge Street Shopping Complex.

As an absolute beginner I think I will start with the cupcakes. My friend, Nat, wants to tag along too. It looks like great fun!
