Stirling Players have a long history of producing first class drama and comedy, frequently using the works of local playwrights.
Peter Flanigan, formerly a teacher, is well-established as a Western Australian playwright whose works have been performed at Stirling many times over the years - most recently
A Country Retreat, Gone A Million and
Gordon Booth (Deceased).
He is also a living contradiction of the dictum that you shouldn't let authors direct their own works as he has directed many of his own to great acclaim.
And it's no different with this latest offering,
You Can't Have One, which he is directing with Jann Rutherford. It's an up to the minute Australian comedy about family relationships reflecting the society in which we live.
Newly-retired right-wing Barry has three children with his wife Sally, all of whom live at home. One by one each presents him with a challenge. Son Cameron's girlfriend Alice sleeps over; daughter Alisha's fiancee turns out to be Left, Labor, teetotal and a vegetarian. Complications, as they say, ensue.
You Can't Have One runs from 29th April to May the 14th at the Stirling Theatre, 25 Morris Road, Innaloo. Tickets cost $22 for adultes ($20 concession) and are on sale from March the 29th and may be booked on 9440 1040 at Morris News of online on the TryBooking
website here .
