Serving up burgers, shakes, fries & frozen yoghurt
If you're a strict carnivore like me, you may often find yourself lured by the delights of the humble burger. For me, burgers have it all; juicy meat, oozy cheese, tasty toppings, all surrounded by a good serving of carbs. What's not to love? I recently found a new and slightly unexpected location in which to indulge my passion for burgers - YoMG - typically known for their delicious frozen yoghurt.
Our local YoMG is in Mordialloc, a beachside suburb worthy of a visit even without the burger enticement. Along the buzzing main street of Mordi (as it is affectionately known) YoMG sits a short stroll from the beach and playground. I occasionally took my brood here for frozen yoghurt before they expanded into serving hot food. It was only on our last visit, some time ago that I was delighted to find out they had a veritable burger-fest happening.
We visited (my husband and I, with our three mini people in tow) at the weekend to see if the burgers lived up to the menu, which had me smacking my lips in anticipation. I opted for the 12th Hour which is a slow-cooked pork burger served with Asian slaw and basil mayo. Hubby was planning to fit in fries and dessert so he went for the smaller Yo My With Cheese. I was also very taken by the sound of the Luau Luau which is a fried chicken burger with cheese, bacon and pineapple. The kids, who are not burger fans (what's that all about?) each had some Southern Fried Chicken Bites which came served with chipotle mayo (divine), and fries.
My slow-cooked pork was absolutely delicious and had a very generous serving of meat in it. Afterwards, I only managed to fit in a few fries and a sample of the kids' chicken (only!). Hubby enjoyed his burger too which was super cheesy and just the right size. Everything came served on cute little silver trays and the burgers were handily presented in little cardboard sleeves so they didn't fall apart the minute you picked them up.
The menu is extensive as burger menus go and YoMG gets a big tick for also catering for the gluten-free and vegetarian crowds. There are some nice touches such as different options for your burger roll (such as a beetroot bun) and different types of fries (such as chilli cheese fries or onion fries). I think you can work out what you might want for dessert; with a huge variety of toppings for the frozen yoghurt, this place is a one-stop smorgasbord of delights. Mind you they also had some amazing sounding milkshakes such as the Nutella cheesecake shake so maybe the choice is not so cut and dried.
YoMG is very family friendly and has a Snack Pack section on the menu for the littlies
The hot food prices are very reasonable and Mordi is a great place to wile away a few hours whilst you burn off all of those calories consumed. Don't take my word for it; check out the menu online here and get yourself down to your local - you won't be disappointed.
