At the Yoga Day Festival we hope, from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm for a rich and varied program of yoga asana classes, live music and kirtan (sacred yoga chant), yoga wisdom workshops, plant-based living, environmental care, deep peace meditation, ayurveda, vibrant yoga dance, diet and wellness and much much more.

The main history of Yoga Day Festival started in 2015 with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was declared by the United Nations in 2015 and observed in over 85 nations, 'Yoga Day' aims to promote and celebrate the many benefits of regular yoga practice. In his UN ,Address Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated "Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well being."
The Brisbane festival returns for its fifth year and I am happy to share some of the information with you which attests to its success. There were over 1200 participants last year with 50 performers and 30 workshops and events, not to mention the the food and market stalls which were plentiful and varied.
The best bit is that everyone is welcome and there are activities for children as well - the whole family can be actively involved.

You can learn "how to meditate" in one of the meditation booths, sway to some yoga music, or be "mindful" or just soak in the sun with some cool yoga exercises. If you want to try something new, you can try your hand at drumming or know the secrets of raw desserts making or lie down in yoga nidra(relaxation) with live flute and tibetan singing bowls. This festival is for everyone, be they new to the world of yoga or regular practitioners.
Adding to the festive atmosphere is live music and bustling stalls offering everything from yoga clothing and equipment, to delicious vegetarian and vegan food. If you would rather kick back and relax in the winter sun, you can head to the dedicated 'Chill Out Tent'.
Children meanwhile can enjoy the many interactive activities in the 'Kids Tent'! Gayatri, event coordinator of this festival says "We are bringing everything that you need to know about the yoga lifestyle and self-care. We have invited the best of artists and programs to provide everything in a fun way so that you have an enjoyable day but you also learn something that you can take home."
