I am a big fan of both yoga and acupuncture and have been for years, so I was delighted to receive an invitation to a Yin & Pin workshop at Enhance Yoga Studio in Berwick.
This is a collaboration between acupuncturist Brett Leo of Gateway to Vitality and Adam Beardsley of Enhance Yoga. They have each brought their expertise in their fields and the common enthusiasm for wellness.
This beautiful studio is warm, serene and provides all mats, blankets and props needed for the very gentle poses, Yin yoga does hold poses for a bit longer and this was neither really strenuous nor uncomfortable as you are supported with blocks, bolsters and blankets.
There was an introductory talk about the importance of wellness and the night's procedure. Adam then led us into our yoga practice and as we laid still for Yoga Nidra (meditation), we were each given our needles by Brett. I could feel my body reacting to the needle points, some a little itchy or an awareness in that spot.
Suyinh was the loveliest surprise of the night. As we were resting into the restorative poses, she would gently place her practised hands on our back to smooth and relax. Then she massaged the tops of my shoulders and I realised how much tension I was holding. Too soon she moved on to the next lucky person.
After the needles have done their work, a vibrant Om and Namaste, we all met back in the foyer where we had a delicious hot herbal tea. The feedback that I have heard is that effects have been noticed, energy levels, sleep patterns etc.
We are all now booking into the next one when some Qigong will be introduced.
The next YIN & PIN workshop will be: Friday, 23 August 2019 from 18:30-20:30
