Yering Farmer's Market

There are farmers markets and farmers markets, but the Yering farmers market is THE farmers market.
This is the only indoor farmers market in the district as it is held in the historic barn building at Yering Station winery in Melba Highway, Yarra Glen, on the third Sunday of each month.
The barn is choc-a-bloc with a huge diversity of stall holders. All stall holders are based in the Yarra Valley and you can talk to the people who make the products they sell.
At each end of the barn, there are outside tent stalls adding to the range of goodies available.
Some of the delicacies spied on a casual walk through the crowded barn were vegetables, berries, jams, other preserves, eggs, pastries, cheeses, Indian spices, fudge, freshly squeezed orange juice, bread, cakes and countless other taste-tempting delights.
For those who can't wait to taste the goodies on offer, there are veggie burgers, a sausage sizzle, pastries, an authentic Spanish kitchen which cook up Spanish delights. There are also other tasty delights.
I'm sure I saw someone with a plate of scones with jam and cream, but I couldn't locate the source so settled for a custard cream waffle and a coffee from the very popular and busy coffee shop in one corner of the barn. Yummie! I purchased three more to take home (don't tell my diabetes nurse).
Walking through the barn the distant sound of live music beckoned the ears to find the source. In a shady spot between the barn and Yering Station wine tasting building was a band the Black Kites.
A group of four, the lead singer playing what I called an amplified acoustic guitar, lead guitar, a bass guitar and a drummer. Their sound was literally music to the ears.
They play what my lack of musical knowhow called 'middle of the road music with a country flavour'.
Facing the Kites, dozens of people sat among a plantation of shade trees, many on picnic rugs, enjoying the music and their freshly purchased food in equal portions.
Between the barn and the winery buildings is a spacious, manicured, spongy green lawn, where many people sat, just enjoying the ambience of the area.
The market is open between 9.00am and 2.00pm.
There is on-site parking, which can be a premium at peak times, but there are staff available to assist you to find a spot.
The next market is on Sunday 17 March 2019. Be there.
