A tribute to man’s best friend
Rhodes Waterside Shopping Centre is really getting into the Year of the Dog this Chinese New Year with a long weekend of puppy family fun. You can get up close to some furry faces, enjoy workshops, good food and entertainment.
One can ignite those fuzzy feelings and celebrate the 11th animal in the 12 year cycle of the Chinese zodiac by cuddling up to a bundle of joy in the Doggie Petting Pen. The hard working pups of Nepean Therapy Dogs will bring smiles to faces of all ages and remind us of the affection and love, without judgement, of man's best friend. You can find them opposite Le Cherie cafe on level 1, from 11am-2pm. Your gold coin donation helps in the training of volunteers that assist these wonderful pups in helping those facing difficult times in their lives.
Want a brand spankin' new dog tag for your pooch? If so, then be one of the first 200 people to collect a free tag from the Customer Service Desk on the ground floor (near Rashay's) and take it to Shu Fiks (near Flight Centre) to have it engraved. Both collection and engraving must happen between 11am and 2pm.
A free puppy photo booth, near Gozleme King, allows you the chance to win a $100 Rhodes Waterside gift card. All you need is your best puppy face pose then print a copy to keep and post it on Instagram with the tags @rhodeswaterside and #playatrhodes. Find it operational from 11am-2pm as well.
The Hand of Luck may just be on your side too. Purchase a meal from one of the food court retailers between 11.30am and 2.30pm and you may receive a lucky token. Take your token to the nearby Hand of Luck to see what prosperity it brings you.
16 February Only
Adults 18 and over can enjoy a Chinese Cocktail Workshop and discover some Asian cocktail classics in this 1hr Lunar New Year masterclass with all alcohol and nibblies provided. It will only set you back $10 and this will be donated to Nepean Therapy Dogs. A win/win for all and it's happening at Corbett & Claude restaurant at 6pm. You will need to make a booking to secure a spot.
18 February Only
A meet and greet with fire dog Marshall and police pup Chase from Paw Patrol will enthral the kids as they celebrate the Year of the Dog. Opposite Gozleme King, rock up at 11am, 12pm or 1pm for this free encounter.
Free kids workshops are also available (near Flight Centre, from 11am-2pm) that allow the young ones to dabble in making a beautiful zodiac watercolour picture or a gorgeous doggie accessory that they can take home.
Traditional Lunar New Year entertainment will take place across the weekend and a selection of market stalls will pop up showcasing crafts and products.
T2 teas are giving away a free gift box of teas and a strainer to the first 150 people approaching the Customer Service Desk on the ground floor. All you need to do is display the Lunar New Year web page, on your phone or tablet, showing the giveaway information and other activities. You can also print the page.
A number of eateries will put on special meals, one of which is Rhodes Phoenix Cantonese restaurant. They are celebrating with a dinner on Sunday 18 February at 7pm. For more detail and to book, contact them on 9739 6628 or visit them online.
Have a Happy Lunar New Year and spoil your pooch in the process.
