Yeah for Yea. The renovated is re-opening for the whole state to enjoy. Yea, Victoria is a historical town 100 kilometres northeast of Melbourne, located along the Melba Highway where it intersects with the Goulburn Valley Highway. It is famous, not only for its superb grazing and timber region, but it was a hub of gold mining when gold was found there by early settlers.

It is also home to the world-famous Yea Flora Fossil Site, which holds the oldest fossils and leafy foliage found on earth thus far.

The area was originally inhabited by the Taungurong people. First discovered in 1824 by explorers Howell and Hume, the land was immediately taken up by graziers for sheep and cattle. It has been thriving ever since, with a steady population who love it so much few move away.

The town store, Purcell's General Store, has been there for over 100 years and is still being run by the Purcell Family till 1987.

Yea is also the home of one of the earliest railway lines in Victoria and the Yea Railway Station. It was opened in 1905 and it originally cost $1.03 to travel from Melbourne to Yea. According to Lance Adams, Yea historian and one of the last drivers of the train to Yea, it finally closed in 1978. Later the tracks were removed. The 11-acre reserve and the historic Yea Railway Station itself were preserved and turned into the Yea Railway Park consisting of picnic shelters, barbecues, toilets, a playground for the kids, a skate park, and walking track.

Thus it is the perfect spot for the up-cycled Yea Country Market which is held in the park on the first Saturday of each month.

And they are having a massive re-launch debut next month on November 4, 2017. There will all types of market stalls, fresh produce, creative arts and crafts, toys and kids activities, clothes and accessories, soaps, candles, jewellery, stationery and gemstones, gardening goods, wines, locally grown olive products, fresh baked bread, yummy coffee to buy and a photography show and gardens to browse. The Yappers Theatre Show will be entertaining you as well.

Yes, of course, the BBQ will be sizzling with sausages and egg and bacon rolls with the help of the Yea Scouts. Make sure you compliment them on their cooking style, so they earn a new achievement badge.

The energised committee is planning new and wonderful things according to President Jacqueline Downing. Her committee includes Christine Hooten (Secretary), Clare Hooton (Treasurer), Russell James-Downing and Ron Perry. They are keen to see extra new committee members join.

They already have a landslide of new stallholders confirming their participation. But the more the merrier, so pack up your old chattels to sell and get on the road, as there will be a car boot sale at $20 per car or $30 for a car with a trailer. Community Groups get free stalls, so this is your chance to fundraise for your special cause.

You can contact Jacqueline Downing on 0427 722 624, or email: globalgemsandfinejewellery.com.au

Ms Downing also said, "Members of the former committee are to be praised for their efforts, and for the helpful way in which a handover was organised."

Carpark with ease and stroll in the shade. As the carpark is suitable for guests with sufficient mobility to climb two or three steps. They are pet-friendly as long as four-legged friends are on a lead. Public toilets are available.

After the market, make sure you drop into the Yea Fossil Site.

Yea Fossil site is a simple roadside cutting on Limestone Road, in Yea. It contains fossils of genus Baragwanathia, some of the world's earliest vascular plants dating back to the late Silurian period, 420 million years ago. These rare fossils were discovered in 1875, but the significance was not recognised until Australian botanist, Isabel Cookson, discovered their real value in 1030. Her scientific work revealed how and when the plants evolved.

The secret treat about this beautiful historic town is you can make it just a day trip from Melbourne or stay over in this idealistic setting for the night. There are lovely places to stay such as the Abekye Loft Studio with stunning views, the Anakama House Stay, or the Wild Duck Cottage - and these are just a few of the scenic places on offer.

So get yourself out and about to the Yea Railway Station,
Station Street, Yea, Victoria, 3717 on November 4, 2017 and be there to beat the crowds for a 9 am start and shop till you drop at 2 pm.
