I'm a qualified UK lawyer, who emigrated to Australia in May 2012. I have three small children and we've been getting to know Brisbane and making it our home.

I don't know about you, but having watched the film Grease many, many, many times, I have always loved the idea of a drive-in cinema. The romance of the 'Grease style' drive in cinema is perfectly re-created at Yatala Drive-In Theatre. However, what I most love about it, is that it offers a perfect family outing for children of any age.
We have a toddler and a newborn baby. Our toddler is just starting to have the patience to watch a short children's film and finds the cinema a real treat, while our newborn baby would, of course, be scared of/disturbed by the noise of a normal cinema, which also wouldn't be conducive to breast feeding (unless at one of the baby friendly showings).
As you arrive at the venue, you queue to pay at the kiosk and are directed to the field where your chosen film is showing. You find yourself a parking space in front of the huge screen. You can get comfy in your car or set up an impromptu den in front of your car. You then tune your radio into the relevant frequency for your film and settle down to watch the film.
We got cosy in our car and watched Despicable Me 2 whilst munching on a picnic. Toddler on daddy's knee and baby being fed by mummy! Combining the comfort of home with the excitement of a family outing - perfect!
