When I think of golf I think of Adam Sandler but I'm certainly no Happy Gilmore. I find golf arduous but the driving range is fun and puts a smile on my face, even if it's only from embarrassment.

I've never really been into golf and didn't really see the point of just hitting balls to nowhere. I thought it was an old person's lame exercise but if you enjoy golf I guess the walk around this course would be relaxing. The location is stunning and a habitat for kangaroos.

From trying out the driving range I learnt that it's not just about smacking the living daylights out of the ball. You have to let the clubs do the work for you. You need to think about the club angle and the stance. You need to hit the ball underneath not on top. Now that's getting a bit too complicated for a Saturday afternoon activity.

The other thing that I didn't realise was that golf is actually exercise especially for certain parts of the body. I realised that the next day.

So there's a few things that I've done wrong over the years and some misconceptions I can admit to. Now I have a question: How come the little ones are so damn good at hitting a golf ball when some of the older ones miss so many?

Yarrambat Park Golf Course has undercover and open driving ranges. I thought it was pretty good not to have to wait on a Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. For $16 you can get 100 bowls and two dollars back when you return your bucket or you can get 60 balls for $10 or 30 balls for $7 but that wouldn't take too long.

This facility also sells multi-passes so you can get 10 times $100 balls for $30.

The Yarrambat Park golf course also has many other facilities including bunkers Café bar and bistro, bar and clubhouse, a pro shop, health club function centre and a PGA golf professional service where Darren Carroll offers lessons, club repair services and club fitting.

The golf course offers a range of specials including unlimited golf and cart after 2 PM weekdays. For just $30 in the summer months they have twilight golf and are open 7.30 daily for breakfast. They offer a senior's discount for dinner at the bistro, which is not open on Sundays.

The gymnasium has been newly equipped and overlooks the beautiful 18th hole. You can attend as a casual or as a full member. Make use of the facilities to warm up or stretch before a round of golf or access the personal trainers.

The pro shop has a range of golf hardware and accessories, drinks and snacks, takeaway coffee, apparel, footwear, bags and other essential golf accessories. It is open seven days a week from now 6 AM till 8 PM.

Have a look at their website for details of all the facilities and use their online booking system.
