Dillydally in the Yarra Valley

It's so easy to forget some of the beauty we have virtually in our own back yards, but tourists from all over the place come to relax, play and stay in our beautiful Yarra Valley for very good reasons.
It's stunning. It's unique. It's only a scenic, one-hour drive from Melbourne's CBD and makes for a delicious day out in the country fresh air.
The endless rolling vineyards make for a great wine tour, but make sure you have a designated driver.
And, then of course, there's the region's fantastic food. Time to salivate. Ooh la la!
The beaut thing about the valley is that there are so many endless things to see and do.
You can plan your day ahead of schedule, or simply wind your way in, dilly in some places for a bit, and dally a while in others at your whim.
Or maybe pull out your winter woollies, pick a sheltered picnic or BBQ spot , ring your friends and hit the road.
One of my favourite spots is Badger Creek Weir, just up the road a bit from the Healesville Sanctuary.
It's a little piece of paradise complete with brightly coloured birdlife, a babbling brook and great (short) forest walks through a fern-filled forest to the weir.
Get there early if you want a good spot!
In fact, get anywhere in the Yarra Valley early - so you can make the most of the long, leisurely day stretching ahead.
