With many cafes closing, some forever, this is a new one opening.

Just over a month ago, Sofia and Con opened their in William Street East, Lilydale. It's purely takeaway, providing coffee, teas, pies pasties, muffins, slices, sandwiches and much more.

Their lunchtime speciality is BBQ steak subs and homemade meatball subs.

For a small shop, there is a huge variety of items to satisfy any palate. A quick look at the three blackboard menus confirms it.

A 'tradie pie' was a new variety of pie to me – beef, bacon and cheese; well the name was new to me.

The three varieties of muffins looked particularly delicious, as did the large chocolate chip cookies.

Any of their take-away meals can be heated up for you or supplied in a suitable container to enjoy in your own domain.

On one of my visits, I tested the barista skills of Sofia (give her a medal). My coffee was accompanied by a melting moment cookie, one of my favourites. It would have to be the most delicious one I have tasted.

You won't go thirsty there as they have two coffee menus, a tea menu (14 varieties), hot chocolate and a good range of soft and health drinks.

Ever heard of a Beef Steak Bar? Neither have I, but you can get one here. It is a chargrilled original slow-smoked dried and seasoned beef bar. Made in New Zealand; no wonder it's a large bar to fit that description on it.

Beef sticks is a more conventional option along with jams.

There are many displays of 'extras', such as coconut pumpkin soup, Paleo bars and Vege Crisps.

Another item that looked tasty was a cheese platter made up by Sofia, while me and my camera droolingly watched.

Further perusal revealed carrot and pepita flats and grissini sticks.

The Soul Cafe is only a small part of what will be a well-being centre with a hairdressing, massage, make-up, day spa treatment, nails, flowers, candles and gifs services - all under the one roof.

Although not yet open, the items in the window display in the next door, soon to be a hairdresser can be purchased via the cafe.

Opening hours are: Monday to Wednesday. 7.00 am – 4.00 pm.
Thursday & Friday: 7.00 am – 5.00 pm.
Saturday & Sunday: 7.00 am – 3.00 pm.
