This market is held in the Punt Road Vineyard in Coldstream. It is operated under the auspices of the Yarra Valley Regional Food Group, now in its 22nd year of running farmers' markets in the Yarra Valley. It is run on the third Sunday of each month.
The market stalls are along both sides a tree-lined boulevard, making it ideal for the wheelchair-bound and mobility challenged.
There is a disabled parking area close to the stalls, with normal parking in an orchard, giving a picturesque walk back to the market.
Yarra Coffee was the most popular outlet, with a queue waiting for their caffeine fix. I can attest that the wait was worth it.
Freshly squeezed orange juice stall was expecting a big demand judging by the quantity of the oranges there.
Kookaberry Farm from nearby Wandin were offering fresh berries, particularly strawberries, and jams, sauces and syrups.
Blossom's Organics, the Ethical Artisan from Gladysdale, has many gourmet blends of curries, relish and turmeric.
No market would be complete without products from talented artisans. One that took my eye was
Unique Hardwood Creations, and they were of practical items rather than decretive. There is something almost magical about wooden products.
Another practical artisan product was the large range of ceramic products.
The Humble Bee, beeswax wraps. These are not something you eat, but a product that replaces cling wrap to preserve food. They can be washed and reused, lasting up to 12 months.
Duncan Bakery from Yarra Glen, was selling their products like hotcakes. Their artisan sourdough and speciality bread varieties were very popular as were their mince pies and pastries. Alas, no hotcakes.
By this time if you are almost shopped out, grab a coffee and a snack from the bakery and head for one of the shady seated areas to recharge yourself before continuing.
Farmers' markets are usually dog-friendly and many bring their owners for a day out and are well catered for by
Pawprintz who supply natural, healthy foods for our four-legged friends.
A large range of farm-fresh vegetables was available from the only vegetable stall and they all looked fresh and inviting.
The Yarra Valley Regional Food Group Farmer's Market has been awarded the Lux Food and Drink award for 2020 as the Farmer's Market of the Year – Victoria. Well deserved.
Unforgettable, from Warrandyte, is the name given to a range of handcrafted meringues, curds, butter and sauces, and they are unforgettable. I tasted their lemon butter and passionfruit butter. Opinion – delicious.
Rosie Posie Floral Designs offer just that, floral designs. Dried flower arrangements and fresh-cut flower designs. Most usual are many succulents in ceramic containers. They come in three sizes and instructions on how to care for them.
Threads of Saffron, from Warburton, is a specialised stall selling saffron based products such as Moroccan moris, orange blossom and saffron syrup and many more.
If by now you are shopped out heading back to your car, another pleasantry awaits you. The route to the car park is one way, so to exit a winding roadway takes you past vines and orchards.
