The Yarra Valley is already an almost perfect foodie destination, but it has been missing one vital element: a destination for chocolate lovers.

Thankfully, this gap is about to be filled by the new Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice-Creamery, which is opening on Saturday 15 December.

Home to a team of European chocolatiers shipped in especially for this business, you will be able to taste some of the 150 different chocolate varieties in their brand spanking new showroom, which the locals have been watching go up on the corner of Old Healesville Road and Melba Highway in Yarra Glen.

December 15 will be a 'soft' opening, in other words a normal business day, but there will be a big family celebration in January 2013. Which is fine with me, right now I'm just interested in the chocolates! There are free product tastings, which you can follow up with morning or afternoon tea or a light lunch in their cafe.

So if you'd like to know what a custom-made truffle cabinet looks like with 2500 truffles in it, get down to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie on Saturday 15 December from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The weather is predicted to be warm, so no excuses for not trying the tira misu ice-cream!
