Originating in China over one thousand years ago, the ancient art of bonsai was adopted and refined by Japanese monks and has evolved over the centuries into the cultural icon that it is today.

The practice of carefully manicuring trees into tiny art forms using complex techniques has spread in popularity to other parts of the world, including our own Yarra Valley.

On 24 November 2013 from 10.00am - 1.00pm, the Yarra Valley Bonsai Society will be holding a sale day at Morrisons, 20 Old Hereford Road, Mt Evelyn. Entry is $2.00 per person.

Come along and discover more about this unique, peaceful and satisfying hobby. For those interested in taking up the art themselves there will be an array of starter kits and tools to get you ready, as well as nursery stock, pots, books and stands.

If you love the look of bonsai, but don't want to invest the time or skills to create your own, you will be able to select a mature bonsai tree to take home and admire.

The Yarra Valley Bonsai Society is open to new members. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.00pm at Morrisons. Consisting of a review/overview session, a short business section and a demonstration or guest speaker, the Society is a great way for new and experienced enthusiasts to meet and share their knowledge and passion. Email [email protected] for membership enquiries, or simply come along to the next meeting.
