Fairies & Elves at Lantern Festival

There is something extra special about nocturnal activities, especially when those after dark events are a celebration of light. First, the good residents of Belgrave delighted us with the Belgrave Lantern Festival back in June. Now we can look forward to The Yarra Glen Festival of Light coming up in August.

Saturday 20th August 2016, to be precise, we can again marvel at the spectacle that is an illuminated night parade. Filling the night with its wondrous mystique, if you've never seen a lantern parade, it is so enchanting.

To make sure everyone is included, LED Tea lights will be provided. Otherwise, guests are welcome to bring their own lantern. Some lanterns displayed at the Belgrave Lantern Festival were large, detailed and simply stunning. No doubt there will be similar lanterns in Yarra Glen so don't hold back if you have a great idea.

To help out, a lantern-making workshop is being held at the Yarra Glen Memorial Hall on Saturday 30th July between 1pm and 4pm. The Memorial Hall is located at 45 Bell Street, Yarra Glen.

This year, The Yarra Glen Lantern Parade has employed a new artistic director, Adam Graf to oversee the event. In accordance with Mr Graf's vision, his company, Catfight Productions have started collecting lace and wool in any form possible, including lace doilies, for some very special lantern arrangements. If you have any materials like this spare, please donate them at the Reading Room in the Memorial Hall.

To tie in with their unspecified theme, organisers are asking everyone to dress in a fairy or an elf inspired costume. Something magical is obviously in the air but perhaps they intend to keep it a secret until the night. But one thing is certain, your entire family from youngest to eldest will be captivated by this after dark Festival of Light.

The Yarra Glen Festival of Light is being held at the McKenzie Reserve, corner Anzac Avenue and Bell Street, Yarra Glen on Saturday 20th August from 5.30pm. Entry to this event is FREE and there will be musical performances, food trucks and lots more.

Yarra Glen is located approximately one hour North East of the Melbourne CBD toward Healesville.
