On the first Sunday of the month (except for the cooler months of July, August and September you will find the Yarra Glen craft market at the racecourse in the picturesque Yarra Valley.

It's a great day from the city and only 54 kilometres from the CBD or just under an hours drive time. With so much to do in the Yarra Valley it's best to head out early to make it a full day trip and combine the market with other things in the area (mentioned below). Allow a good two hours to look around the market which will give you the chance to see everything and give you time to sample some of the stallholders offerings.

At the market you will find around 300 stalls offering quality products that are hand made, home baked, freshly picked or home grown. There is a great variety of things for sale including plants, garden sculptures, clothing, furniture, art works, cards,
food including: bread, jam, cakes, chocolates, meats, seafoods, nuts, muesli, fresh fruit and veggies. Hot food including: pizza, souvlaki, calamari, paella, donuts and much more.

If you're taking the kids along then you will find plenty for them to do with an animal farm, painting stand, kids stalls with clothing, toys, fairy wands, food such as schmancy apples, mini pancakes, and even a playground with a racing theme.

Parents can take a well earned break on the lawn with a coffee whilst the children play on the equipment. You can also rest assured that the toilet block is near the play equipment because children always seem to need the bathroom as soon as you get to a playground.

It's best to come prepared with a cooler bag and an ice brick for unexpected purchases of meats, seafood or cream sponges. There's nothing worse than seeing all these tempting items and having to leave them behind because of a lack of cool storage on your day out. Though if you forget the market organisers do sell cool bags for $3.

To make the most of the market experience you should be prepared for four seasons in the day. Mornings are crisp and the cool air takes some time to warm but once it does you will be wanting a t-shirt or something light on.

Parking is available on site and costs $3 per car.

As for other things to do in the area you can't go past the McKenzie Reserve playground ( one of the best playgrounds/ picnic areas) Yarra Valley Chocolaterie , the many wineries , antiques, natural attractions such as the Sugarloaf reservoir and Donelly's weir or the nearby Healesville Sanctuary or even the Healesville railway for a train ride.
