An exciting, welcoming and different cafe has opened in Henley Beach.

The menu is full of taste-tempting choices and there's something for everyone.
You'll find a terrific selection of savoury and sweet all-American specialties including burgers, hot New York sandwiches, bagels, Mexican dishes, classic hot dogs, donuts, cookies, milkshakes & ice cream. And coffee, don't forget the coffee!

Cafe owners are Steve and Doug. Steve was born in South Australia and moved to the US. Doug is from the US and both lived in Seattle for 25 years before deciding to move to Australia and follow their dream of opening a cafe by the beach.

The Yankee Cafe opened on Halloween in 2013 and yep - they are just a few steps from beautiful Henley Beach.
Their classic sandwiches include the Reuben, the Sloppy Joe and the New Orleans.
The Reuben sandwich is a triple decker hot sandwich made of corned beef, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and sauerkraut. Some customers of the Yankee Cafe (who are seasoned New York travellers) swear that Yankee's Rueben is better than any that they've had while in NYC. The Reuben is on the top of my list to try on my next visit.

Not being familiar with classic American food, I was a bit bamboozled with the choice and found it difficult to decide what to order. Both Steve and Doug (and the other customers) were extremely helpful in helping me decide. I ordered the pulled pork baguette (slow cooked marinated pork shoulder with home made smoky bbq sauce and creamy coleslaw) which was incredibly delicious. My friend ordered the Kauai burger (hand formed meat patty, with pineapple salsa, teriyaki sauce, Colby cheese, lettuce, tomato and crunchy fries) and said that it was the absolute best burger she's had since she was a teenager.

There's so much to choose from - on the menu are Mexican Chicken Enchiladas, fish tacos, carne asada with black bean and corn relish burritos and much more. Like I said - there's something for everyone to enjoy.
The Americans love their sweet desserts and you'll find the very best of them here. Yummy key lime pie, donuts, traditional American scones, brownies, home made cookies and coconut cream pie - just like the one on Gilligan's Island! All of them go perfectly with a cup of great coffee.

Indoor cafe seating is limited, so get in early and enjoy the great company of your hosts. There's also outside seating, which would be a perfect spot to enjoy a summer's meal. Take away is an option that's available too.
All in all, the Yankee Cafe is a pleasurable and mouth watering cafe to visit - I highly recommend it.
