What a little gem I have discovered hidden away in suburbia in Adelaide's north. I had never heard of his café which opened in 2014, yet locals are catching on and becoming loyal customers. Adrian, who is the sole operator, has a love of coffee and wanted to bring fine coffee and a touch of gourmet to the north.

However, this place is more than a coffee shop. Adrian's aim is to provide locally roasted premium coffee to baristas in the northern suburbs. Xtraction sells a premium signature blend of 100% organic Arabica beans available in 500g or 1 kilo bags.

They also sell a range of top brand coffee machines and provide servicing to machines, or you can order the parts here and do it yourself. He also has some tea and a range of pasta sauces for sale.

So now to the food. The menu is small but adequate for a small café. There is an Italian influence with very fresh ingredients. There are three main parts to the menu. The breakfast and lunch menu is the same, which could have been called brunch. Here you will find ham and cheese croissants, toasted muesli with yoghurt, fruit and honey, waffles and a range of egg and bacon dishes. There are also some vegetarian choices.

The second part of the menu is the pizza selections. I thoroughly enjoyed my gluten free gourmet vegetarian pizza. All pizzas have something special, such as rosemary, basil, garlic and assorted cheeses used. Adrian had oven roasted capsicum to put on my pizza and it was the best pizza I have had in a long time. The gluten free base was golden brown, thin and crunchy on the edges. I will be back to try the marinated potato, onion and rosemary pizza. Next, there are some pasta dishes, such as lasagne, prawn linguini and bacon and cream sauce penne.

This is only a small café. My friends and I took up all available chairs and tables which Adrian quickly transformed into a space for us. The kitchen is out the back, so there is no clanging noises going on while you are conversing.

Adrian has obvious hospitality experience as I noticed he was attentive in his meal service and came by the tables to check if we were all okay, as if we were in a high-end restaurant. It was good to see and he made an impression. He was busy that day, yet he remained calm and unflustered. The coffee was superb and as it was a warm day, some ordered a decadent iced coffee with cream at $5 each. Everyone enjoyed their food and loved the coffee.

The café is nicely decorated with coffee bean hessian bags and shelves stocked with coffee and tea supplies. They really need some more tables and chairs in here though, as the space could fit some more. If you have a small group, it is best to call and book. Adrian does all his communication via his Facebook site here and if he needs a day off, he will close up, so check his site before you go.

This café is the kind of place that locals will get to know and go for a walk for coffee or gelato. Oh did I mention the gelato? And Adrian also sells sweet little cannoli. Those Italian sweet treats filled with custard. It is also the sort of place that could easily catch on and people will drive out of their way for. I did and I will definitely return. This place is a little treasure and I am so pleased to see more coffee venues opening in the North as they are few and far between.
