XRACE is a family-friendly adventure race, a cross between a fun run and the amazing race. Teams made up of one adult and one child race together around a course made up of ten mystery challenges. You must successfully complete each challenge before moving on to the next one. The course is usually around 3 -4 kilometres in length and takes between 45 - 90 minutes to complete.
My family and I competed in XRACE last year and really enjoyed it. There are a variety of mystery challenges which change each year. Last year challenges included making beaded keyrings, a three legged race, deciphering a clue from sign language and a game of elastics to name just a few. Between each challenge you run or jog a few hundred metres.

The great thing about XRACE is that it is only as competitive as you make it. You can choose to race against the clock, and other families, and get your results or you can treat it as a bit of fun and at the same time strengthen family bonds, create some new memories and build self-esteem in your child.
As well as the mystery challenges there are also compulsory challenges which are announced prior to the race which you can prepare for. It might include learning some choreography or a skill such as CPR.
During the race, it is important for teammates to stick together as there are "baddies" lurking around the course to make sure that you do. You can spot a baddie as they will have a mask covering their face. If they catch you separated from your teammate that can give you a time penalty. But there is an easy way to defeat the baddies. All you have to do when you see one is hold hands with your teammate and they can't catch you or stop you.
