I'm a beginning writer with a Brisbane Bucket-list and a desire to see it all and report back.

20mins is all it takes
I'm writing this review less than 24 hours after my work-out session and I keep stopping, distracted by the muscles in my arms and stomach, that were definitely not there this time yesterday. These new muscles are a result of a short but intense 20min session with the XBody AUSTRALIA Pty Ltd trading as XBody Training team over in Newstead. If you have a weight loss or fitness goal you wish to achieve ASAP then book your session now.

Check out my new muscles!

This cutting edge technology that is allowing me to marvel at my increased biceps is currently launching all over the world and my partner and I were lucky enough to be able to try out the first EMS Fitness Training provider in Australia.

We drove to our session rather nervously after reading the training involves "electrical muscle stimulus." However ten seconds after walking through the door we knew we were in for something special. This special something involves a high-tech suit that helps the body undertake intensive muscle work by emitting a low frequency current into 90% of the muscles in the body. This allows users to train nine muscle groups at once, meaning that the benefits from your 20min session far outweigh the benefits of even multiple gym trips. As regular gym junkies we can both attest to this fact stated on the website, this was like nothing we have experienced before.

Zipping into our special suits

One of the major perks of this workout is how intimate the experience can be. Working out with so many others at a regular gym can intimidate a lot of us, especially those with a long weight loss challenge ahead of them, but XBody removes this fear factor. The studio itself is set up for those wanting to work out by himself or herself, or with one other friend. So for us, wanting to get in shape for our looming wedding, it was perfect.

An intimate exercise experience

I'm sure by now you are intrigued so let me break down step-by-step what to expect when experiencing of this new fitness technology. When we arrived we were given cotton garments to wear which, when soaked ensure the current can be conducted without obstruction. Next we were both sprayed down with pleasant warm water, which also aided the currents journey into our muscles. Then our very own personal trainer (we had one each) helped us climb into our special suit with the inbuilt EMS technology. We both shared some giggles as our respective trainers zipped us into what looks like parachuting gear. The suit is not heavy but it is crucial to the amazing workout you will receive during your session.

Our lovely trainers then attached our suits to the machine and slowly increased the current to each of the muscles in our body. Both Amy and Norbert did a wonderful job of easing us into this unusual experience. They increased the current slowly so we were able to stay in complete control of our workout and comfort levels. This also means that you are able to focus on which muscles you want to target.

Turning on the machine

When the machine starts you can feel a slight sensation in the targeted muscles. Slowly it increases to what feels like pins and needles. It is not a painful experience, weird yes, painful no. Plus if you ever feel too uncomfortable your personal trainer is right next to you ready to turn the dials down.

Next the lovely Amy took me through a short session. This involved a lot of squatting and some arm movements similar to standard weights training, but you aren't holding any weights. Next comes the cardio, which involves more squats and some rapid arm movements. It doesn't sound too strenuous but by this time (approximately 15mins in) the sweat was pouring from my hairline, an excellent indicator of a good workout. I don't even want to describe the state of the rest of my body after the suit came off.

Straining through my muscle strengthening session

At the end of the session we were instructed to simply lie down on the floor and were treated to a wonderful massage, something you definitely don't get after a normal gym workout. The massage was also delivered via the current and was an excellent way to warm down.

A relaxing massage to end the session

We were promised that we would feel more energized after our sessions and the XBody machines certainly delivered. We had been up since 3:30am that morning and our session didn't begin until 5:30pm so we arrived exhausted and concerned about our ability to perform. As it is such an unusual feeling we were giggling and smiling (in between straining and grunting) most of the way through and finished feeling like we could have run all of the way home.

We did decide to drive however and as we drove off, feeling invigorated my partner and I deliberated on whether we would ever be able to go back to the regular gym again… definitely not.

Sounds great. How many sessions are recommended? Is it mean to be a weekly, monthly activity?
