Iconic Australian musician and story teller, Xavier Rudd is about to take flight on his highly anticipated Spirit Bird Tour at the end of August. Upon the recent release of his seventh studio album, Spirit Bird, Rudd will be showcasing the new tracks along with old favourites over many dates all across the country he calls home.
The tour will set off in tropical Cairns on Wednesday 22nd August then will soar down east coast Queensland, touching down in places such as Townsville, Rockhampton and Bundaberg. Rudd will spread his unmistakable sound as far wide as Toowoomba before nesting in the south east.
Brisbane's The Tivoli will be graced with his presence on Thursday 30th August, then Lake Kawana Community Centre on the Friday, followed by the Coolangatta Hotel Saturday 1st September. The tour will continue to stun his fans down the east coast of New South Wales and Victoria, onto South Australia and finishing up in Yallingup, Western Australia.
Accompanying Rudd as always will be his array of instruments, his awe inspiring voice and an on-stage presence unlike anyone else. Didgeridoos, drums, a harmonica and a collection of guitars are a familiar sight in Xavier's set up. Only earlier this year in March, the Hi-fi in Brisbane's West End played host to the multi-instrumentalist, giving the audience a sneak peak of Spirit Bird. In a word, it was spine-tingling.
The title track off the album is enough to give you goose-bumps, especially with the story behind it. Rudd said the inspiration dawned on him in the Kimberley's when a black cockatoo 'spoke' to him. Unbeknownst to him at the time, the ending to the song later 'came through' him whilst the cockatoo's habitat was being destroyed. If the performance of this song back in March is anything to go on, then the Spirit Bird show will be a spiritual experience.
With a deep love of this country and the environment, the new album samples live recorded native bird and nature sounds along with the patriotic resonance of the didgeridoo. The 2012 single release, 'Follow the Sun' is a treat for the ears with smooth harmonica melodies melded with sweet acoustic guitar.
For a sweet and soul-hitting musical performance that will leave you soaring, get along to one of the many dates on the Spirit Bird Tour. Xavier Rudd's story telling through his songs is something not to be missed.

I love Xavier to bits. He lifts my spirits like no other, except maybe Carlos Santana. I'm going to his Melbourne concert. Wouldn't miss it for anything. Those who haven't yet explored him should. Great man, great talent.
