I enjoy writing about Adelaide and its many attractions. If you think Adelaide is boring,
the problem is not with Adelaide.

Rather than constraining the boundaries of the imagination, maps can channel our minds to use them as a launchpad into completely different places. From the fantasy playground of a pirate map to the nostalgic musings over a historical map, these canvases can take us on a journey into the unknown.
The free X Maps of the Imagination art workshop will be led by noted international award-winning artist and educator Lauryn Arnott, who will share her love of art, history and culture with students at two workshops - one each for adults and for children aged 10-14 years old.
The workshops are being funded by the City of Mitcham as part of the 2013 Voices of the Village Festival being held in October, and are being held at the Mitcham Cultural Village, 103 Princes Road, Mitcham.
Participants will be guided to creatively use collage, drawing and painting to chart a map from their past or travel in the future. Far from being a simple exercise in charting, map makers will be encouraged to engage in the broader context of topical themes including multi-culturalism, identity, global culture, and personal memory.
Each free session will last 2.5 hours, and advance bookings are required. Participants are encouraged to bring their own maps, their imagination, text, drawings and photographs to personalize the final artwork.
An information kit provided to participants will prepare them with questions to think about before the workshop, and suggestions for what to bring to help develop their own map. It's planned to exhibit the results of the workshop at the 2013 Voices of the Village Festival.
