One of the most common complaints about bar hopping in the Valley is the dress code. A button up shirt and neat slacks will gain you entry at some places, but at others you'll be turned away for not looking fashionable enough. X and Y Bar (648 Ann Street) is the answer for those of you who are sick of being judged by the Fashion Police.
X and Y harks back to the golden days of the Valley when, according to their website, 'businessmen, tradies and queens sat alongside each other and there was no judgment'. Indeed, you'll find no judgement at X and Y – the dress code is sensible, the staff are laid back and the graffiti on the walls seems to make some sort of anti-authority statement. The ground level is raw and industrial while the downstairs cocktail bar has a camp 1970s feel .
