Team sports are a fantastic way of teaching children values like co-operation in a fun and relaxed environment, not to mention the more obvious benefits of exercise and fresh air. If you live in the Wynnum Manly district and have a child aged 5 – 17 years who is interested in playing rugby league in 2013, read on.
The Wynnum Manly Juniors football club are hosting their sign on day on Sunday, 3 February. The day will take place at the clubhouse at Kitchener Park, with sign up available between 10.00am and 2.00pm.
A fee of $300 per player, $440 for two or more players, and $200 for under six players is applicable, less a 10% discount if paid in full on the day. This fee covers the entire season, which means no more rooting through your change jar before each game. Wynnum Manly shorts and socks packages are also available for $40.
There will be a jumping castle available for the children, and a sausage sizzle will take place between 11.00am and 1.00pm.
The club is registered for the Get Start program, a Queensland initiative aimed at supporting grassroots sporting clubs. Players whose parents hold a Centrelink concession card are eligible for a $150 voucher to subsidise membership fees; parents who don't have a concession card may also apply if their child is referred by two referral agents (i.e. people who are employed in community-oriented positions, such as teachers, police officers and Members of Parliament – full list here). The program works on a first come first served basis, so eligibility does not guarantee funding.
