Wynnum's historic wading pool is a magnet for families and those wanting to keep fit. Set alongside The Esplanade adjoining Moreton Bay, it is a lovely spot at any time.

Weekends are popular with families where little ones can enjoy a splash about with water no high than an adults knee. Early mornings and throughout the day you can spot waders walking up and down doing their aqua exercises, some even attempting shallow water 'laps'. The Wynnum Manly Radio Model Yacht Club have model boat racing that can be seen on the first Sunday morning of every month, and every Monday morning from 9.30am.

The newly refurbished jetty runs out on to Moreton Bay giving a lovely walk out to see the vistas of the Bay islands and the 'giraffe like' cranes of the Port of Brisbane. Picnic tables with a shaded roof have been added to provide some relief from sun or rain and let you have some pensive time to enjoy the beautiful Moreton Bay views.

At the entrance to the jetty is a wooden 'totem' style artwork and an information panel playing homage to the areas historical links with the Winnam aboriginal group and the areas longtime popularity as a seaside destination for Brisbane residents. It befits the slogan of Wynnum's claim as Brisbane's seaside being the closest point to the sea from Brisbane's CBD.

Pandanus Beach is a small but delightful spot to have a picnic and dip toes into the water. Nearby is a mini adventure play park that has a whale water feature that is great for young ones to splash around and have fun in.

The wading pool, jetty and surrounding parklands host the REMAX Advantage Illuminations Festival each June. This features a lantern parade; light displays on the wading pool; entertainment; illuminations, twilight markets and fireworks. For more information go to Illuminations website .

The perfect place for a coffee or a meal is directly over from the pool. The Pelican's Nest Cafe serves an extensive fish menu from calamari to the traditional fish and chips with bream, whiting and tempera to tempt the taste buds. There is a great range of salad accompaniments and a full breakfast menu is available until 11am with a range of burgers throughout the day. They offer a take away and a phone in service additional to dine in with BYO. There is a full range of drink options from specialist teas, coffee, chai, juices and milkshakes. Free Wi-Fi is available.

Pelican's Nest is open until late from 8am on Saturday, 7am Sunday's and throughout the week. Contact 3396 3777 or visit Pelican's Nest .

For anyone who enjoys a pleasant day out to the seaside the Wynnum foreshore is an ideal spot.
