Just dam well visit
If you have ever travelled along the road between Beaudesert and Boonah, you would see Wyaralong Dam on the side of the road. Have you ever thought about having a closer look and turning off to see more of this place? I've passed several times on a mission to reach my destination without spare time to explore. That is, until my last trip. Yes, I will do it.

I had stopped and taken a couple of photos - of the dead trees that clearly had a life before all the water spilled into their space.

The dam provides water for the Scenic Rim area and there are quite a few rules one needs to know before visiting. Dogs are not permitted, and you can only use electric-powered boats and paddle boats (canoes etc);

You can fish in the dam but you will need a permit. There are several types of fish in the water, as well as red claw. Check here to get information about a permit for fishing at Wyaralong.

There's a wonderful picnic area overlooking the dam, with plenty of sheltered picnic and BBQ areas and a playground for the children. Though I think there is plenty of pathways and lawn areas for the children to run around to wear themselves out. Public toilets are available too.

There are many trails around the area for bushwalkers and mountain bikers, as well as for horses. There are horse-holding paddocks as well as horse loading areas.

The State Rowing Centre is based at the dam - a great place to row in the dam. Certainly safe still waters! Pelicans and other birdlife are happily living in the area.

Wyaralong Dam is beautiful, peaceful, we’ve had a couple of Christmas picnics there. Have to go back, clearly they have added some worthwhile features.
