Adelaide local who loves her city
Published June 7th 2012
One of Adelaide's most beautiful and historic places of interest has to be Carrick Hill. This incredible building was built as the full time residence for Edward Hayward and his lovely bride Ursula Barr Smith. Both came from prominent Adelaide families and the land on which this magnificent house was built was actually a wedding gift from Ursula's parents.

As the couple were not quite ready to settle down, they travelled the world in search of antiques and other collectables they could decorate their new home with. Some of these items were quite significant, such as staircases and huge doors from a mansion in England. They acquired the services of a talented architect who actually designed the house around the various fittings they had brought back with them.

Even after all these years, Carrick Hill is still mostly in its original state, complete with period furnishings and décor. Public tours of this incredible place are conducted quite often and of course you can also wander through at your own pace. Entry is $10.50 for adults and $6.50 concession. Family tickets are available for $24.00. If you have never had the pleasure of visiting Carrick Hill then make sure you do it soon.
