The Wrong Prom series at Carriageworks has made the 'getting out and active' part of winter so much more bearable. After attending the Grease themed Wrong Prom I was ready to thrust my way out of winter, Greased Lightning style.
In association with Urban Dance Centre, the whole night is themed, from the headmistress on the microphone, to duck-arse hairstyles, swinging skirts, big hair and instant replay of our dance moves as if we were at the Rydell High dance comp. We oiled ourselves with some alcohol (its an over 18's event), which was perfect on this stormy night, tightly packed ourselves onto the dance floor like cars in a drive in, and were taught the entire routine to Greased Lightning. With dance teachers around the room to help us out we thrusted, grinded and finger pointed our way through the routine with smiley faces and a blood pumping round the heart!
There is something about an all-involved dance session that makes the endorphins go for it. There were various displays of dressing up and seeing the effort that some people went to made me wish I had gone all-out. Regardless of dress however, Wrong Prom is a recipe for success, and in its second season it is proving just this.
There is still one more to get your dance on - Carriageworks host Wrong Prom - Chicago themed on Wednesday August 25, 7.30pm onwards. Get your skates on. More info and book here.
